Jon told me I could "put a list together" of yarn that I want. Omg! Super sweet, I know.
My Mom's buying me yarn too, to make my sister a sweater :) Madison is WAY excited about it, so I have to get the yarn for it super soon...
Anyway. I just made my Amazing List of Yarn for Jon.
It's not that bad. It could have been a lot, lot worse. Especially worse is that I didn't include anything from my knitpicks wish list on there because I intend on buying them myself :) Nothing fancy. Some yarn for a sweater for Scott, some nice cotton for household stuff (only a skein or two), the shawl kit I am lusting after, a few of the Imagination sock yarns (ok, more like four), some bare yarn, some acid dyes, and maybe a sock blank.
...I'm gonna space this out over a few checks. And spend my grocery money on yarn. Who needs to eat when you can knit? I'll probably wait on the acid dyes and sock blanks until later in the fall, when I also get some roving for dyeing.
I figure, one $50 order for the summer and one $50 order for the fall and I'll be all set. And with free shipping!
I picked out the yarn for my sister's sweater too! In pink and purple. Very exciting. I'm waiting on the text back from my Mother on this one. And what a good deal, a superwash wool sweater in the exact colors she wants for $35?! Holy crapface.
Yesterday I wrestled madly with the idea of knitting two mittens on two circular needles. But!
I FIGURED IT OUT! It’s so simple now:
- You have to cast on the stitches for the one sock, put them on dpns, and join them. Now set them aside. I did it on just two dpns (since that’s how they would be on the circs anyway). Repeat for the other sock.
- Arrange them so the working yarn is facing the same way on each sock and make double-sure the rounds are un-twisted. Make sure that the side you are going to begin knitting your round on is the same for each sock. When I did it, the working yarn was on the left side of each little two-dpn set and the wrong side of my knitting was facing me.
- Then take one circular needle and string it through the stitches on the bottom needle of the right sock followed by the left sock. Remove dpns. Take circ no.2 and string it through the stitches on the top needle, right and then left, and remove those dpns.
- Begin knitting your first round. When you get to the last stitch on the circ of the first sock, drop that yarn and pick up the next yarn for sock 2. Continue on the back half of sock 2 followed by sock 1 and you find yourself at the start of round 2 sock 1!!!
My house is a MESS.
But that's okay I guess. It's a crafty mess. Now that my finger is a little better I can wash the dishes... Uh, tomorrow. :) I really want to knit these mittens now!!! NOW! Then I'm going to immediately cast on Hungry Bees despite the number of WIPs I currently have. Oh man. Knitting like this is gonna be trouble...
